What is Eden all about?
Eden is a Southsea-wide youth group that runs in the main church hall on Friday evenings from 7:30 pm -9:30pm for Year 7-13s. It attracts around 30 young people each week from churches across Southsea and our local community. Eden runs fortnightly, during term time, on the first and third Friday of the month. Our vision is to see young people welcomed into a safe space where strong relationships can be built with other young people from across Southsea, to be refilled by God, discuss big questions about faith and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
From 7:30 pm-8:30 pm, we kick off our evening with games consoles, creative space, board games, tuckshop, Pizza, table tennis and Pool. We really focus on having fun, creating strong friendships and just spending time being able to get away from the stresses of day to day life.
From 8:30pm-9:30pm we then lead the young people through the brand new Youth Alpha course. We spend time watching the video and talking through the discussion questions and any other big questions about life and faith that the young people have brought with them.
Why join the team?
Being an Eden volunteer can be extremely rewarding. So many of the young people we interact with are looking for somewhere safe where they can feel listened to, loved and valued. We can love these kids because we know the one who first loved us and it is a joy to get to know them, share about our faith and our testimonies with them as well as providing that consistency of always being a listening ear, a consistent role model and someone to rely on because we turn up for the kids again and again and again, no matter what.
What does commitment look like?
Once a month volunteering, helping the same week each month (with the opportunity to swap when needed).
Be willing to join in with fun, games, conversation and model what it looks like to live in relationship with our Heavenly Father, in our funky t-shirts!
